SOS - looking for a Mono!

I've been busy over the last week with my V2Pro coaching at Cadwell and Oulton.

But now I've just had the time to sit down and write my race report from the BSB meeting at Oulton Park last week.

However, the pressing thing at the moment is I'm on the look out for a Mono (preferably a Minimono) for the second round of the European Supermono Championship at Assen - weekend of 29th May.
If anyone out there has a spare bike and fancies going racing - please let me know.

Well it was an eventful ten laps. Alex Gault ran on early then Lea crashed out. Jeremy was leading with a gap of well over a second. In the last two laps I was making progress on him and crossed the line just 0.6 second behind.

As ponderous yet certain as Continental Drift.

Just fitting myself a seat bump to help overcome the acceleration forces. Also just found out that yesterday's times don't count so the next session will determin the grid for the race. Bu$§er!

Ducati 598 Supermono.

It really is a work of art.

On a scale of 1 to 10.

Yesterday the pain was at full on maximum 10.

Today though I've woken up and its subsided to about 7.

I won't be racing but the whole supermono paddock is about 'family style' so we have come to support all the other riders and watch the race.

This is Sjoerd Buiten, he rides a Ducati 1098 that they have simply chopped the back cylinder off!
Obviously there is a bit more to than that - it is a beautiful technical achievement.

Back from hospital.

No damage done.

Had a body scan and nothing broken.

Torn the muscles in my back. Hurts like hell.

The boys had rebuilt the bike but at the moment walking is difficult so I will just sit in the van and enjoy the bar-b-que that Alex is preparing.

Lots of supermonos.

The race this weekend is really well supported with in excess of 30 monos on the grid.

Not sure if I will be there for the race though.

Changed the gearing and the first flying lap was good over a second quicker.
Unfortunately this meant I used 2nd instead of 3rd coming out of the chicane and highsided.

Don't know what the bike is like but I'm in hospital in Verviers waiting for an xray.

Nothing broken but feel like I've been punched in the kidney.

Remember she's a moto x 450 at heart.

That's first qualifying over.
Did constant 2' 52s and ended up 9th and split the exhaust down its entire length.
Bu$$er.
Going to do a couple of changes for the next session.
But to be honest everyone is very happy with 'Sabina' having done her best.

Couple of onboard practice laps.

On board video.

Had a good couple of sessions.
Did what I needed before qualifying tomorrow.

Changed the shock and the gearing.

Ran with an on board camera so we can watch the footage together and go through stuff with Mark and Steve.

First session.

The weather is glorious.
Bright sunshine.

Today is a track day with a minimum of 600cc, the organisers have given me special permission to let 'Sabina' have a look round.

So far she loves it!

Van gets to go on track.

The access tunnel for taller vehicles has collapsed so we have a limited time window to get in the paddock via the track.

Great fun to drive the van on the circuit.

Bit of a running repair.

Off we set this morning for Spa Francorchamps. Riding Mark's moto450 'Sabina' at my most favorite track in the World in a European supermono event.

Just had to pull over on A1 though to put a bit of flapping trim back on the van.

North Yorkshire Road Racing Club.

Up in Northallerton tonight its the 'sponsored riders' evening. The club works hard throughout the year with social evenings and special events to raise funds to allocate to racers. This year they are sponsoring 15 riders and I am lucky enough to be one!

Bit chilly at Cadwell today.

Russ has treated himself to a new bike to do BMCRC thunderbikes and is now treating himself to a coaching day. Last time we were here he was riding a mini twin so it will be interesting to see how he gets on with this bike.

Just as well he ran out...

Here are the tickets issued by the Gendarm, just as well he stopped at 10! I think his book ran out... 495 Euros - It's really put a dent in the finances.

driving home the scenic route.

We were in a rush to get to Spain so we did motorways all the way. We fancy a change for the drive back so we are taking the small roads through the mountains. The scenery is breathtaking. Makes me feel very insignificant.

Just before we set off home.

Yesterday I ran with the cameras on Frank to test some new batteries. Got some good footage of Jenny Tinmouth out on track. So this morning after packing the van I had time to run through it with her. She's certainly talented; a good, smooth, fast rider.

Well I've spent a couple of sessions today just putting miles on 'Steve'. He's loosened up nicely now. I built the revs up gradually throughout the day. I now know the limiter kicks in about 6,800. More to do on the suspension tomorrow.

'Frank' is having a good time too.

This is the first time I have ever ridden Frank just on my own, not on a coaching day. With no noise restrictions we have even taken his decibel killers out; so now he really feels like he's not at work but on holiday.

Well we have arrived.

Really pi$$ed off. Was pulled in the services while riding through to run up and down the gears. One policeman seemed bike friendly and was prepared to let me off with just one ticket. The other one sensed a record for his station and escorted me back there. Ten tickets and 495 Euros later I am wondering whether we can afford to go on to the test. Fancy that. No such thing as a day light MOT in France!

Oh dear.

Only about another nine hours to go. If the weather brightens up I might put "Steve's" number plate on and do some distance. He's only got 8 miles on the clock and it would loosen him up before we get on track.

Cash Wanted!

About fifteen years after I won the inaugral Triumph Speed Triple race at Donington Park, I really fancy having a go at the ParkinGo European Triumph series. Run at selected rounds of World Superbike Events, with everyone onboard identical Triumph Street Triple 675Rs, I think that I'd put up a good showing. The race weekend program is based on two official sessions, one on Friday and another on Saturday, and the race on Sunday at 14.30, before the second WSB race. On the following dates:
11/04/2010 Valencia
25/04/2010 Assen
09/05/2010 Monza
27/06/2010 Misano
11/07/2010 Brno
01/08/2010 Donington
05/09/2010 Nurburgring

All I need now is £35,000, or $57,000 or €40,000 whichever way you want to look at it!

That's everything all in - I just have to get myself to the meetings, turn up and ride - we get to keep the bike at the end of the season - so I suppose that's something. What do you think? Do you think I could manage to find 35 people who would pay £1,000 to join a club with a 1 in 35 chance of owning the bike?
Got to think of something...
